CLEMSON, S.C. - Boston College (7-7, 1-3 ACC) scored three runs with two outs in the top of seventh, capped off by a Tony Sanchez two-run homer, to earn its first ACC win of the season with a 6-4 victory against Clemson (9-5, 1-3 ACC) at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, Friday afternoon.

Sanchez went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs and extended his hit streak to 11 games. Matt Hamlet added a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Ryan Akel chipped in with a double and two runs scored in the win.

Terry Doyle (2-1) pitched 6.0 innings and allowed three earned runs on 10 hits. The senior right-hander tallied six strikeouts and one walk to earn his second win of the season.

Kurt Hayer tossed the final 3.0 innings to earn his first save of the season and his career.

Ryan Hinson (1-3) suffered the loss for the Tigers working 6.2 innings and allowed five runs, two earned, on seven hits with seven strikeouts.

Clemson got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the top of the third inning. Alex Lee knocked in Mike Freeman with a RBI double. Lee would later come around and score on a sac fly by Doug Hogan to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage.

BC answered with run in the top of the fourth. Hamlet led off the inning with a walk, followed by a Sanchez single. With one out, Michael Belfiore singled up the middle to score Hamlet and cut the Clemson lead in half, 2-1.

The Eagles tied the score in the top half of the fifth. Akel hit a double to left field to start the inning. He would score on a sac fly to right field by Hamlet to even the score, 2-2.

The Tigers tacked on a run in the bottom half of the inning to retake the lead, 3-2. Stan Widmann and Wilson Boyd started the frame with back-to-back singles. Hogan followed with a bloop double down to right field line, which scored Widmann. With runners on second and third, Doyle was able to work out of the jam. The right-hander received excellent defensive plays by Eric Campbell and Belfiore. Campbell made a full extension stop on a ground ball to third base and fired home to record the first out. Clemson's Jeff Schaus would then hit a line drive to the right side that Belfiore snared and fired to second base, for an inning ending double play.

BC used a two-out rally in the seventh inning to push across three runs to take its first lead of the game. Hamlet hit a double to left-center field that scored Akel all the way from first base. Sanchez followed with a two-run homer to right field, his second of the season, to give the Eagles the 5-3 lead.

Clemson added a run in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI single by Hogan.

In the top of the ninth, the Eagles manufactured a run to extend their lead, 6-4. Akel reached base on a walk to start the inning. Akel was lifted for pinch runner Robert Anston. Leadoff hitter Barry Butera followed by reaching base on a hit by pitch. Hamlet sacrificed the two runners into scoring position. Sanchez hit a sac fly to center field to push across an insurance run and round out the scoring for the Eagles.

BC plays the second game of the three-game series against Clemson, tomorrow, Saturday March 15, at 11 a.m. at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
