Box Score

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The baseball team pounded out 16 hits - six coming in the decisive sixth inning, in which Boston College scored four runs - en route to a 9-3 win over Central Connecticut State on Thursday, March 29 at Balf-Savin Field.

The 16 hits tie the Eagles' season high. They had the same number in a 13-11 win over Valparaiso on March 6.

Junior Josh DiScipio (Schenectady, N.Y.) got things started in the second with a two-run double to center, scoring senior Matt Lederhos (Westwood, Mass.) and sophomore Mike Flynn (Trumbull, Conn.).

After DiScipio stole third, junior Garrett Greer (Peabody, Mass.) drove him in with a groundout to give the Eagles (10-9) a 3-0 lead.

In the fourth, Flynn scored BC's fourth run when the Blue Devils catcher dropped the ball as he attempted to steal home.

Central (8-4) staged a two-out rally in the fifth, scoring three times to cut the deficit to 4-3. Tim D'Aquila and Tom Pezzello did the damage with a two-run single and an RBI base hit, respectively.

The Eagles gave the Blue Devils a taste of their own medicine and then some in the next inning, scoring four runs with two outs. Consecutive RBI singles by Flynn, Greer, sophomore Marco Albano (Arlington, Mass.) and senior Ryan Leahy (Salem, Mass.) upped the Eagles' lead to 8-3.

Leahy drove in BC's ninth run on a groundout in the eighth.

Lederhos went 3-for-5 in the game while Flynn, DiScipio, Greer, Albano and sophomore Ryan Morgan (Weymouth, Mass.) collected two hits apiece. Flynn crossed the plate three times.

Sophomore Jake Marsello (Lynn, Mass.) picked up his second win of the year, giving up three runs (none earned) on six hits in six innings. He struck out two and walked one.

Boston College looks to keep things rolling Saturday, March 29 with a noon doubleheader against Hartford at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, Mass.
