No. 22 NC State Downs Boston College, 14-4

April 27, 2008

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State (30-13, 15-8 ACC) used three two-run homers to defeat Boston College (20-24, 5-19 ACC), 14-4, on Sunday afternoon at Doak Stadium and sweep the three-game series.

James MacDonald (3-7) suffered the loss for the Eagles. The junior went 3.1 innings and totaled two strikeouts.

Tony Sanchez, Matt Hamlet and Garret Smith each collected a double and RBI to lead the Eagles' offense. Eric Campbell scored two runs and added a single, while Marc Perdios chipped in with a single and run scored.

Sogard put himself in a bind in the top of the second, without surrendering a hit. Campbell and Mickey Wiswall drew back-to-back walks to start the frame. After Hamlet sacrificed the two runners into scoring position, Smith drove a sac fly to left field to plate Campbell to give BC the early lead, 1-0.

NC State tied the score, 1-1, on a two-out infield single by Drew Martin, which plated Nick Stanley from second base.

BC added a run in the top of the third to retake the lead. Perdios started the inning with a single to right center. After Perdios stole second, he would come around and score on a two-out double down the left-field line from Sanchez against Wolfpack reliever Jake Buchanan.

In the bottom of the third, the Wolfpack put up a three-spot on the scoreboard highlighted by a two-run blast from designated hitter Ryan Pond to retake the lead, 4-2.

NC State tacked on three more runs in the fourth to take a 7-2 lead.

The Eagles pushed across two runs in the sixth against NC State reliever Kyle Rutter. Campbell started the rally with a single to right field. Hamlet lined a double to right center to plate Campbell. After Smith blooped a double down the right-field line, Robert Anston plated Hamlet on a RBI ground out to make the score 7-4 in favor of the Wolfpack.

The Wolfpack answered with two more runs in the sixth on a two-run homer from Matt Payne to push the lead back to five runs, 9-4.

NC State exploded for five runs in the eighth to round out the scoring on the day, 14-4.

BC returns home to host the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Tuesday, April 29. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Commander Shea Field in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
