The Boston College baseball team earned New England Division I Team of the Year honors, according to an announcement by the New England Baseball Coaches Association. The Eagles set a school single-season record with 37 wins. Picked to finish fifth in the Big East preseason poll, the Eagles (37-20) finished second in the regular-season standings.
The coaches received Staff of the Year honors as head coach Pete Hughes led Boston College to 30 wins or more for the fifth time in the last six seasons. In his seventh season at the Heights, Hughes was joined by assistant coaches Mikio Aoki, Steve Englert and Peter Pasquarosa.
Seniors Jason Delaney, Joe Martinez, Mike Wlodarczyk and sophomore Jared McGuire captured All-New England first-team honors. Delaney boasted a .354 batting average and a team-best .560 slugging percentage as he led the Eagles with eight home runs and 48 RBI. McGuire led the Eagles offense with a .381 batting average, a .444 on-base percentage, 82 hits and 52 runs scored. McGuire gained Big East Player of the Year honors, while Delaney received All-Big East Third Team honors. Senior Marco Albano received second-team All-New England accolades after collecting a .301 batting average, nine doubles, and 30 RBI.
Martinez (9-3) posted a 2.81 ERA and led the pitching staff with 96.0 innings pitched, 99 strikeouts, six complete games and two shutouts. Wlodarczyk (10-2) boasted a team-best 10 wins, striking out 90 batters in 85.0 innings of work and throwing five complete games. Martinez and Wlodarczyk, the team's two senior aces, each started in 13 games and captured All-Big East first-team accolades.

Hughes helped coach the University Division, made up of Division I all-stars, to an 8-2 victory over the College Division (Division II-III all-stars) in the 30th New England College Baseball All-Star Game at Fenway Park on Sunday, June 5. Delaney was named the game's Most Valuable Player as the outfielder produced one double, one triple and four RBI. Last year, Delaney went 3-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in the all-star game.
