Boston College senior catcher Shawn McGill (South Kingstown, R.I.), junior pitcher/outfielder Ryne Reynoso (Hailey, Idaho) and junior pitcher Kevin Boggan (Lexington, Mass.) have been selected on the second day of the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft.
McGill was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 23rd round (697th pick). Reynoso was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 26th round (790th pick), while Boggan was picked by the San Francisco Giants in the 43rd round (1285th pick).
A catcher, McGill earned All-New England first-team honors this spring. He finished the 2006 season with a .322 batting average. McGill hit .420 over the last 17 games of the season, including a combined 14-for-24 performance in series wins over No. 5 Georgia Tech and Maryland. The senior also captured ACC Player of the Week honors on May 8 and earned Fox Sports Net 'Player of the Game' honors following BC's televised match-up against Maryland on May 7.
McGill played in 153 games in his four years at Boston College. He made 139 starts.
Reynoso played in 46 games, making 31 starts, in 2006. The left-handed hitter registered a .240 batting average (30-for-125). In addition to his outfielding duties, the junior right-hander made four mound appearances, posting a 1-0 record and a 2.25 earned run average in 4.0 innings of work.
Reynoso played in 84 games in his first three years with the Eagles. He has made 55 starts.
Boggan registered team-highs in saves (seven) and appearances (31) in 2006. The right-handed pitcher posted a 4-2 record, a 4.42 earned run average and struck out 55 batters in 50.1 innings of relief.
Boggan has made 59 career appearances in his first three years at Boston College. He has posted a 9-3 overall record and a 3.42 earned run average in 129.1 innings of work. He has struck out 129 hitters.
McGill, Reynoso and Boggan are the second, third and fourth BC players to be selected in this year's MLB Draft. On Tuesday, junior pitcher Matt Meyer (Rochester, Minn.) was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 15th round.
Last spring, Boston College had five players selected in the MLB Draft. They were pitchers Mike Wlodarczyk and Joe Martinez; infielders Jason Delaney and Marco Albano; and outfielder Drew Locke.
