CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College baseball team concluded the sixth annual Sonny Nictakis World Series on Monday, with the Gold team sweeping the best-of-seven game series from the Maroon team.
Freshman Matt Hamlet earned Most Valuable Player honors for his impressive play at the plate. During the four-game series, Hamlet recorded four hits - two for home runs - in nine at bats, while knocking in three RBIs. The second baseman also walked three times, allowing him to reach base seven times in 12 official plate appearances.
The Eagles open their regular season on Friday, Feb. 22 against Georgia Southern. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Statesboro, Ga.
Game 1 - Gold 5, Maroon 4

Sophomore Tony Sanchez hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie, giving the Gold team a 5-4 victory. The home run came off left-hander Steve Candrot on a 2-1 count, which traveled over the left-center field wall of Shea Field.
Dan Laufer picked up the victory in relief, scattering two hits and striking out two over two innings of work. The lone run Laufer allowed came on a solo home run from Ryan Akel in the fifth inning.
Garrett Smith led the Maroon offense, going 3-for-3 at the plate, including a double.
Game 2 - Gold 5, Maroon 4

Mickey Wiswall's two-out RBI double in the sixth inning, which scored Matt Hamlet, broke a 4-4 tie to give the Gold team the lead, eventually taking game-two, 5-4.
Hamlet went 2-for-2, with two runs scored. Wiswall went 2-for-3, adding two RBIs.
Chris Kowalski hit a solo home run in the second inning, then pitched three innings of scoreless relief to earn the victory.
Eric Campbell and Mike Augustine each collected two hits for the Maroon team.
Game 3 - Gold 8, Maroon 3

Matt Hamlet homered twice and added three RBI to lead the Gold team to an 8-3 win versus the Maroon team.
The Gold team pounded out 13 hits, receiving two-hit games from Mickey Wiswall, Robert Anston and James Laufer.
Pat Dean earned the victory in relief of Wiswall. In three innings of work, Wiswall only allowed one Maroon player to reach base, a walk to Mike Sudol.
Mike Augustine recorded two hits in the loss for the Maroon team.

The Gold team shut out the Maroon team, 3-0, to sweep the sixth annual Sonny Nictakis World Series.
Geoff Oxley, Kyle Prohovich and Dan Houston combine on a seven-hit shutout for the Gold team. Oxley worked the first five innings to earn the win before Prohovich pitched a scoreless sixth. Houston closed out the game, allowing no runs in the final inning to earn his second save of the series. The trio struck out three, while only walking two in the game-four victory.
Barry Butera and Tony Sanchez each connected on solo home runs for the Gold team. Butera's blast led off the second inning to give the Gold team a 2-0 lead. Sanchez's homerun gave the Gold team a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning.
Eric Campbell and Michael Belfiore tallied two hits each for the Maroon team.
