April 1, 2008

Two Boston College scholarship basketball players - sophomores Shamari Spears and Daye Kaba - have decided to transfer and pursue opportunities at other schools, according to BC head basketball coach Al Skinner.

Spears, a 6-foot-6-inch forward from Salisbury, N.C., averaged 9.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game in 28 games for the Eagles this past season. He made 17 starts. In two seasons, Spears averaged 8.3 points and 5.3 rebounds in 59 games (30 starts).

Kaba, a 6-foot-4-inch guard from Cergy, France, averaged 0.6 points and 0.6 rebounds per game in seven games this past season. In two seasons, he averaged 1.0 point and 0.4 rebounds in 39 games.

Boston College finished the 2007-08 season with a 14-17 mark, including a 4-12 record in ACC action.

The 2008-09 Eagles will feature six returning lettermen, including three starters.
