CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College seeks its second-straight trip to the ACC Championship Game when it takes on Maryland (7-4, 4-3 ACC) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Alumni Stadium. The Eagles (8-3, 4-3), who controlled their own destiny entering the final three games of the season, will claim the Atlantic Division if they can pull off its third-straight conference victory.
In order to do so, redshirt freshman QB Dominique Davis will have to take control under center. Davis orchestrated a nine-play, 70-yard touchdown drive in the final minutes that gave BC the win at Wake Forest last Saturday. He entered the game in the second quarter after senior Chris Crane had to leave due to a broken collar bone.
Davis finished 13-for-23 for 103 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown on a one-yard quarterback sneak with 1:12 to play. In the final drive, the Lakeland FL native completed a career-best 36 yard pass to junior WR Rich Gunnell and then had a 21-yard strike to senior Brandon Robinson to the one-yard line. Davis was named the ACC Rookie of the Week for his efforts.
"It's a lot different and it's a lot more exciting, too, knowing that I'm going to play," Davis said. "I had one of the best practices I've had yesterday. I'm ready this time. I have a lot of pressure on me, but it's nothing I can't handle."
Last weekend's game was the third time this year that Davis had seen game action. He appeared in consecutive games against UCF and Rhode Island on September 6 and 20, respectively, but only attempted 12 passes in those games.
The Terps rank 63rd in the country in total defense (358.36), 66th in pass efficiency defense (126.16), and 72nd in rushing defense (147.09). They only allow 20.82 points per game, though, which ranks 31st in the nation.
Maryland is 1-3 on the road this season with its lone win coming at Clemson on September 27, 20-17. The Terps have lost at Middle Tennessee State, Virginia, and Virginia Tech.
