The Boston College football team has accepted a bid to play in the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl, which will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on December 31 at LP Field in Nashville. The Eagles will face Vanderbilt, which finished the 2008 regular season with a 6-6 record, 4-4 in the Southeastern Conference. The game will be televised by ESPN.
"I'm very proud of what this team has accomplished this year," Coach Jeff Jagodzinski said. "As I said last week, nobody outside our locker room expected them to accomplish what they did. We're looking forward to playing Vanderbilt in the Music City Bowl. Nashville is a great city, and I'm sure we'll have a very good time."
The Eagles, who were picked to finish fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference's Atlantic Division in the preseason, finished the regular season with a 9-3 record and advanced to their second consecutive ACC Championship Game. Although they lost in the title game to Virginia Tech (30-12), they now have an opportunity to play in their 10th consecutive bowl game and hope to extend the nation's longest active bowl game winning streak to nine games.
"Our team is looking forward to playing Vanderbilt in this year's Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl," Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo said "We had a fantastic experience the last time we visited Nashville, in 2001, capped off by an exciting win over a very good Georgia team. We are all very proud of our team's accomplishments this season."
The Eagles played in the 2001 Music City Bowl, upsetting 16th-ranked Georgia 20-16. Playing in their own backyard, the Vanderbilt Commodores are competing in their first bowl game since 1982. DJ Moore leads the squad and is second in the SEC in interceptions. The Commodores completed their regular season ranked third in the SEC East, a first for the program.
"The Bowl is very excited about hosting two outstanding universities in our community around the New Year's holiday," Bowl Chairman Aubrey Harwell said. "Not only do we anticipate the great match-up on the field, but we also welcome the opportunity to share this historic milestone with Vanderbilt. We welcome back Boston College as the Atlantic Division champions of the ACC and look forward to renewing that relationship."
