Brace In East-West Shrine Game; Jagodzinski Tees Up For Charity

Dec. 23, 2008

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College senior DT Ron Brace has been selected to play for the East team in the 84th East-West Shrine Game on January 17 at the University of Houston's Robertson Stadium. Brace earned All-ACC Second Team honors in his last season at The Heights.

The East-West Shrine Game is the oldest and one of the most respected postseason collegiate bowl games. Every year since 1925, the East-West Game has been played to raise funds for Shriners Hospitals for Children and to raise awareness about the expert orthopaedic, burn, spinal cord injury rehabilitation, and cleft lip and palate care, available at no charge to patients and families, through the 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Brace has recorded 25 tackles this year and his 10 tackles for a loss are fourth on the team. He also has three sacks and a forced fumble. He has helped lead the BC defense that ranks first in the country in interceptions (26) and turnovers gained (36), sixth in total defense (273.38) and red zone defense (.71), and seventh in rushing defense (92.2) and pass efficiency defense (98.71).

The Eagles are also ninth in first downs defense (15.23) and 19th in scoring defense (18.5).

WATCH JAGODZINSKI GOLF FOR CHARITY ON CHRISTMAS DAY
Head coach Jeff Jagodzinski will take part in the Chick-fil-A Bowl Alma Mater at Reynolds Plantation on Christmas Day. Jagodzinski will be paired with actor and BC alum Chris O'Donnell and compete for $350,000 in scholarship money. Fans can tune in to CBS at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday to catch all the action.

Bill Macatee and Bill Raftery will call the action for the event, which features pairings that include a university head coach and a celebrity alumnus from the same school competing in a scramble format against other university teams from around the country. The event will award $350,000 in scholarship winnings among the 13 university teams and will donate another $115,000 to charity.

"This is one of those unique and wonderful events where the personalities of the coaches and celebrities really come out," said Macatee of CBS Sports. "It's so rare to be able to see a new side of them. You can tell they're having fun out there and it's fun for us to be a part of it."
