Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Freshman Cam Atkinson scored a power-play goal in the second period and classmate Paul Carey sealed the victory with a man-advantage goal late the third period to lead fourth-ranked Boston College to a 2-0 Hockey East win before 4,727 fans at Kelley Rink.

Atkinson opened the scoring at 14:48 of the middle period off a cross-ice pass from freshman Barry Almeida.

With the Eagles on a 5-on-3 power play late in the third period, Carey netted a rebound to put BC up 2-0 with 2:51 remaining in the game.

The Eagles outshot Massachusetts, 38-27, including a 13-7 edge in the first 20 minutes and a 15-9 advantage in the final frame.

BC sophomore goalie John Muse made 27 saves to earn his seventh win of the season and fourth career shutout. The game marked BC's first shutout of the 2008-09 campaign.

UMass junior Dan Meyers registered 36 saves in net for the Minutemen.
