Boston College junior forward Nathan Gerbe has been named one of three Hobey Baker Award Hat Trick finalists, according to an announcement made by the committee on Wednesday evening.
The three finalists for college hockey's top individual honor are Gerbe, Miami's Ryan Jones and Michigan's Kevin Porter.
Gerbe, a first-team All-Hockey East honoree, has tallied 60 points - 30 goals and 30 assists - in 41 games and enters next week's Frozen Four in Denver, Colo., ranked second in country in points and third nationally in goals.
The Oxford, Mich., native earned All-Tournament Team accolades at both the NCAA Northeast Regional as well as at the Hockey East Tournament. Gerbe captured Hockey East Tournament Most Valuable Player honors after he registered nine points - four goals and five assists - in four BC victories.
He is a three-time league Player of the Month Award winner, having earned the honor for December, January and, most recently, in March. Gerbe registered a team-high 15 points - eight goals and seven assists - in nine games LAST month.
The three finalists were selected from the initial list of Top Ten candidates by the 25-member Selection Committee and an additional round of online fan balloting to determine this year's Hobey Baker winner. Criteria for the award includes: strength of character on and off the ice, displaying outstanding skills in all phases of the game, sportsmanship and scholastic achievements.
The winner of the 2008 Hobey Baker Award will be announced on Friday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. EST from Denver, Colorado, the site of this year's NCAA Frozen Four Championship. The announcement will be televised live on ESPNU network.
