Three Boston College hockey alums - Bill Guerin, Brooks Orpik and Rob Scuderi - captured the 2009 Stanley Cup as contributing members of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

It marks the second Stanley Cup for Guerin, who won his first with New Jersey in 1995.

The Wilbraham, Mass., resident is the fourth BC hockey player to capture multiple championships, joining Joe Mullen (Calgary in 1989, Pittsburgh in 1991 and 1992), Kevin Stevens (Pittsburgh in 1991 and 1992), and Doug Brown (Detroit in 1997 and 1998).

At Boston College, Guerin recorded 70 points in 77 games during his two seasons (1989-91).

At the NHL level, he has played in 1,185 games in 17 seasons.  Guerin has registered 811 points - 408 goals and 403 assists.

The 2009 Stanley Cup marks the first for Orpik and Scuderi, who are the eighth and ninth former Eagles to win the coveted trophy, joining Brown, Guerin, Brian Gionta (2003), Brian Leetch (1994), Mullen, Ryan Shannon (2007) and Stevens.

Just eight Aprils ago, Orpik and Scuderi skated alongside one another as a Boston College defensive pairing in their final collegiate contest - a 3-2 overtime victory over North Dakota at Pepsi Arena in Albany, N.Y., a victory that earned the program the 2001 NCAA Division I championship.

Scuderi registered 70 points in 169 BC games from 1997-2001.  He holds the program's career record for games played.  The Syosset, N.Y., resident made his NHL debut on Feb. 12, 2004 and has played five NHL seasons, all with Pittsburgh.

Orpik finished his BC career with 41 points in 119 games from 1998-2001.  The East Amherst, N.Y., native was a first-round draft pick (18th overall) of the Penguins in 2000 and made his NHL debut on Dec. 12, 2002.  Orpik has played six NHL seasons, all with Pittsburgh.

In addition to Guerin, Orpik and Scuderi, Pittsburgh head coach Dan Bylsma also has a connection with Boston College hockey.  Bylsma earned four varsity letters (1988-92) playing for Jerry York at Bowling Green State University.
