Boston College freshman goalie Joe Pearce (Brick, N.J.) has been named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference on Monday.

The rookie played both games for the Eagles over the weekend, helping them to the title at the 39th Annual Great Lakes Invitational at Detroit's Joe Louis Arena. Pearce, who earned tournament MVP honors, made 49 saves in the two games, including a 34-save performance in the Eagles' 4-1 win over Michigan on Saturday. He made 15 saves on Sunday as BC defeated Michigan State in the championship game by a 4-3 score.

The Eagles (13-2-3, 6-0-2 Hockey East) return to conference action on Saturday, January 3 when they travel to Northeastern to take on the Huskies. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be televised on CN8.
