The Boston College track and field squads competed at the SCSU Invitational on Saturday, April 1 in New Haven, Conn. On the women's side the team finished second, and the men's placed seventh. Between the men's and women's teams, they had 23 athletes place in the top five in 15 different events, including a win from Katherine Sherman in the high jump. Sherman jumped five feet, five inches and Julie Regan jumped 5-03.00 to claim second place. Patrick Mellea won in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14 minutes, 43.82 seconds.
Jeff Klatsky placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of one minute, 56.12 seconds, while James LaGreca placed eighth in the event.
Benjamin Kocarnik placed fifth in the pole vault, with a mark of 14-07.25. David Lucia's throw of 42-11.75 placed him 12th overall in the shot put. Lucia also placed 13th in the hammer throw with a toss of 129-08.
On the women's side, Alison Fogarty placed second in the 400 with a time of 57.41. Kate Guenette finished sixth in the 200, clocking in at 27.41. Jennifer Heyde was the 10th-place finisher in the 800, with a time of 2:19.67.
Nikki Tufts, Jessica Flinn and Mary Heitkamp finished third, fourth and eighth in the 1500. Tufts clocked in at 4:36.24, while Flinn finished in 4:37.03 and Heitkamp crossed the line at 4:42.77.
Flinn and Tufts placed fourth and fifth in the 5,000 with times of 18:00.55 and 18:06.76, respectively.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Kasey Hill, Sherman and Tiana Riel claimed the second, third and fourth spots. Hill finished in 15.03 and Sherman and Riel clocked in at 15.11 and 15.53.
Kara Musso was the fifth-place finisher in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.54. Anne Hessberg and Alexis Lake placed second and third in the 3000 steeplechase with times of 11:15.10 and 11:17.50.
The 4x400 relay finished fourth in 4:04.09.
Melanie Pearson's mark of 9-06.25 placed her fourth overall in the pole vault, while Riel finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18-03.25. Hill finished sixth in the long jump with a mark of 17-11.75.
In the throwing events, Jessica Fazekas placed second in the shot put (41-11.50), fifth in the discus (127-02) and ninth in the hammer (125-04). Stephanie Ho finished fourth in the discus (128-08).
Both teams compete at the UNH Invitational on Saturday, April 8, in Durham, N.H.
