Eagles finish fourth in 19-team national championship field

SUGARLOAF, MAINE - The Boston College men's ski team raced to a fourth-place finish at the USCSA National Championships on March 9-11. The Eagles finished fourth in the slalom competition and sixth in the grand slalom event.

Junior Greg Avallon led the men's squad with a 12th-place overall finish, accumulating 88.15 total points. Senior Peter Bohlin finished 22nd overall (196.27 points) in the 108-person field, and junior Thatcher Merrill raced to a 34th-place finish (269.36 points).

Avallon paced the Eagles in both the giant slalom and slalom races, finishing 14th in each competition. Bohlin and Merrill finished 27th and 30th, respectively, in the giant slalom race. Freshman Andrew Simmons raced to an 18th-place finish in the giant slalom event, and senior Andy Wallman finished 21st in the race.

Sierra Nevada College won the USCSA National Championship after turning in first-place team performances in the giant slalom and slalom competitions. Rocky Mountain College and the University of British Columbia finished second and third, respectively. The University of Massachusetts-Amherst rounded out the top five in the field of 19 schools.

Boston College concluded their season at the USCSA Nationals on Saturday, March 11, after having finished fourth in the USCSA Eastern Regionals on Sunday, Feb. 26, under first-year head coach Peter Endres.
