NEWTON, Mass. - Freshman Kevin Mejia converted a penalty kick at 48:03 and sophomore Edvin Worley added a late score to lift Boston College to a 2-0 ACC win over Virginia Tech before 686 fans at the Newton Campus Complex.

The match marked the Eagles' final regular-season contest. BC finished with an 11-7-0 record, including a 5-3-0 ACC mark. The Eagles finish in third place in the league standings with 15 points. North Carolina and Wake Forest tied atop the standings with 16 points.

Virginia Tech finished 5-11-2, 2-6-0 in ACC play.

Mejia converted his third penalty kick of the season after classmate Charlie Rugg was taken down in the box by a Hokie defender.

Worley doubled the BC margin in the final minute. Freshman Colin Murphy's cross from the right side found Worley out front. Worley beat the Hokie keeper from eight feet.

BC gained a 12-7 edge in shots, including a 7-2 margin in the second half. After Mejia's tally, Rugg had two good chances in a two-minute span (at 56:45 and 58:30). Both shots landed wide right.

Each team registered five shots in the first half. The visiting Hokies enjoyed two quality chances. Freshman Collin McNew's blast from the right wing was saved by BC goalkeeper Justin Luthy in the 17th minute. McNew's header from 10 feet out on the right side was saved by Luthy at 24:49.

The Eagles' prime opportunity in the opening half was a 25-foot strike from straight away by Worley in the 40th minute.

Luthy earned the win by making two saves. Virginia Tech senior goalkeeper Stefan Caulfield made one save.
