NEWTON, Mass. - Freshman Isaac Taylor scored the golden goal - the first score of his collegiate career - to lift Boston College to a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Dartmouth in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship before 619 fans at the Newton Campus Field Thursday night.

Taylor's goal came from 23 yards out on a half volley and was assisted by classmate Colin Murphy in the 103rd minute.

"Colin Murphy headed the ball into the top of the box and I ran in and lowered my foot," Taylor said of the game-winning goal. "It came off my foot well and ended up in the back of the net."

Freshman goalkeeper Justin Luthy made six saves in the match to improve to 12-7-0 on the season.

Dartmouth, which outshot BC 6-3 in the first 45 minutes, led 1-0 at halftime.

Dartmouth junior Daniel Keat scored the game's first goal at 29:53. The Wellington, New Zealand native one-timed a cross from Luckymore Mkosana for his eighth goal of the season.

Both teams attempted 11 shots in the match as BC outshot the visiting Big Green 3-0 in 12 minutes, 57 seconds of overtime play.

The host Eagles evened the score in the 51st minute on freshman Kyle Bekker's third goal of the season at 50:58. Junior co-captain Karl Reddick intercepted a pass and fed Bekker, whose left-footed strike ricocheted off a Dartmouth defender and past freshman goalkeeper Sean Donavan.

The teams played the next 52 minutes tied at one goal each.

Dartmouth finished with a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.

BC advances to the second round of the 2009 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship and will play at 13th-seeded St. John's on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 6 p.m.
