Swimming And Diving Split With Bucknell

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Swimming and diving were home for their second meet yesterday afternoon where the women defeated the Bisons of Bucknell University 168-132, but the men dropped a 178-121 decision, giving them just their first loss of the young season.

Sophomore Caroline Byron was again impressive as she collected three first-place finishes in the 200, 50, and 100 yard freestyle respectively. Senior captain Kim Garcia also swam well, earning two top-three finishes in the 1000 and 500 yard freestyle.

Freshman Caitlin Doherty also earned a pair of wins for the Eagles in the 200 and 100 yard fly. Juniors Maeve Brennan and Mari Wunschel also picked up wins for the Eagles who won 11 of a possible 17 events, including the 200 yard freestyle relay.

On the men's side, senior Thomas Martz and junior Christopher Wilson-Byrne each earned two wins for the Eagles. Martz captured the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard fly, while Christopher Wilson-Byrne won both the one and three-meter diving events.

Sophomore Tommy Chandler also swam well earning three top-three finishes in the fly, backstroke and IM. Senior Matt Northrup also earned a win for BC in the 100 yard free with a time of 48.73.

Both the men and women race again on Friday, November 3 at 6:00 p.m. at the Flynn Recreation Complex against the Big Green of Dartmouth College.
