Six Student-Athletes Named to All-ACC Academic Swimming and Diving Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Six Boston College student-athletes were named to the All-ACC academic swimming and diving team, announced by the league office on Thursday. Four members of the men's squad earned academic honors, while two student-athletes from the women's team were recognized.
Brett Bromann, Michael Hughes, John Maloy and Joseph Maloy were honored the conference for their academic excellence.
Bromann, a freshman from Yorkville, Ill., competed in the backstroke events and was a member of the 800-freetyle relay team. On Feb. 27, Bromann joined John Maloy, Dominick Boccio and William Schwitter to capture the BC 800-freestyle record at the ACC Championships in a time of 6:56.21.
Hughes was a freestyle swimmer from Rye, N.Y., for the Eagles in his freshman campaign. He garnered the team's outstanding performer honor for his efforts in the 200-breastroke against crosstown-foe Boston University.
John Maloy of Wildwood Crest, N.J., earned team MVP honors for his success at the Heights in his freshman season as a distance swimmer. Along with being a member of the record setting 800-freestyle team, Maloy was selected as team outstanding performer nine times.
Joseph Maloy, a senior and older brother of John, captured the Mary Pawlak Award - The Coaches' Award - along with being named to the All-ACC academic squad. Maloy was a positive influence all season and one of the best distance swimmers on the team.
On the women's side, Caroline Byron and Mari Wunschel were rewarded for their academic excellence.
Wunschel, a senior from Santa Rosa, Calif., earned team MVP for her excellence in the individual medley. Wunschel along with Byron, Caryn Switaj and Kelly Leahey set the BC 800-freestyle relay record at the ACC Championships in a time of 7:36.14. She was also named team outstanding performer four times.
