Women's Basketball Cruised to 70-42 Victory over Miami

Boston College women's basketball team improved to 17-5 overall and 5-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 70-42 victory over Miami at Conte Forum on Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles were led by freshman Carolyn Swords with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Ayla Brown added 13 points and Mickel Picco notched 11 points. Freshman forward Stefanie Murphy added 10 points and nine rebounds, while senior forward Rebecca Miles added six points and five rebounds off the bench.

Miami was led by senior guard Maurita Reid with nine points and six steals and Damisha Moore contributed eight points and five rebounds.

The Eagles went up 14-4 in the first five minutes and never looked back. Boston College shot 70 percent from the field in the first half while holding Miami to just 22 percent. BC led at the half 45-20 as Swords and Murphy combined for 22 points and 10 rebounds.

The second half BC extended its lead 29 points with 6:08 to play when sophomore Mickel Picco hit a three-pointer from the baseline. The Eagles out-scored Miami, 25-22, in the half to capture the victory.

Boston College shot 59 percent from the field for the game and had 24 assists on 32 field goals. The Eagles out-rebounded Miami, 39-27.

Swords finished the game perfect from the floor as she went 8-for-8. Picco finished shooting 5-for-7 from the floor. The Eagles pounded it down low as they scored 42 points in the paint, while Miami only had 18.

Boston College will host No. 9 Duke on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. Tickets are still available.
