Women's Basketball Open Season with a 68-36 Victory over Wright State

The Boston College women's basketball team opened the season with a 68-36 victory over non-conference foe Wright State at Conte Forum. The Eagles are now 1-0, while Wright State is 0-1.

The Eagles were led by freshman center Carolyn Swords with 23 points and six rebounds, while junior Corey Rusin added 10 points, two assists and two steals. Sophomore Ayla Brown had eight points and eight rebounds and freshman point guard Jaclyn Thoman had five points, three steals and eight assists.

Wright State was led by Kanisha Ward with 14 points and five rebounds, while Sheylani Peddy added eight points, four steals and five assists.

Boston College shot 46 percent from the field and 48 percent in the second half alone. The Eagles out-rebounded Wright State, 36-15.

The Eagles held a 36-25 lead at the half and then went on an 8-2 run to go up 44-27. In the Eagles run, Wright State committed six turnovers and missed six shots. BC went 4-for-5 from the field, four coming from Swords and two from freshman Stefanie Murphy, who finished with nine points and seven rebounds.

Wright State cut it down to 13 points at 12:42 on a steal and lay up by Peddy. The Eagles responded with an 11-0 run to give the Eagles a 54-31 lead with 6:08 to play.

Boston College's next game is on Wednesday, Nov. 14 in Amherst against Massachusetts at 6 p.m. The Eagles next home game is on Tuesday, November 27 against New Hampshire at 7 p.m.
