CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Boston College women's basketball team topped Vermont, 79-38, in a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon at Silvio O. Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The Eagles improved to 3-1 on the season with the win.
Sophomore Laura Lokitis (Norton, Mass.) lead the team in points, tallying a career-high 22. Lokitis' 22 points is also a season-high for the Eagles. Lokitis nearly scored more points in one game than she scored during her whole freshman season (23 points).
The Eagles got on the board first when Aja Parham (San Antonio, Texas) made a lay-up at 2:57. The Catamounts would enjoy their only lead of the game at 3:45 when Amy Rosenkrantz hit a two-pointer to put Vermont on top, 3-2. After that the Eagles went on an 18-0 run, with Lokitis scoring eight of those points. The Catamounts cut the lead to 13 when Nicole Trott made a lay-up with 5:46 remaining in the half.
In the first half, the Eagles would go up by as many as 19 points, and heading into the locker room at halftime Boston College had a 17 point lead, as the score was 31-14.
At the start of the second half Boston College picked up where it left off when Kindyll Dorsey (Manchester, N.H.) started an Eagle 10-0 run by hitting a three-pointer. The Eagles would go up by as many as 42 points with 1:06 remaining when Brittany Johnson (Chicago, Ill.) made a free throw.
Parham led the Eagles in rebounds with 11. She also tallied 12 points for her second career double-double and first of the season. Kathrin Ress (Salorno, Italy) added 10 points, while Sarah Marshall (Falmouth, Maine) led the Eagles in assists with seven.
Defensively, the Eagles held the Catamounts to 22.4% shooting from the field, while forcing 18 turnovers. On the offensive front the Eagles shot 49.1%, which included 56% in the first half.
Boston College is now a perfect 4-0 in the series with Vermont. The team is also undefeated at home this season at 3-0.
The Eagles will next face North Texas on Saturday at the UNH Thanksgiving Tournament. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
