Women's Basketball Captures 77-52 Victory over New Hampshire

The Boston College women's basketball team went on a 14-2 run in the first half and never looked back as the Eagles defeated New Hampshire, 77-52, in a non-conference game at Conte Forum. The Eagles improved to 3-2 on the season, while New Hampshire is now 2-3.

Boston College freshman Stefanie Murphy led the Eagles with 26 points and 11 rebounds, her third consecutive double-double. Eagles freshman center Carolyn Swords added 12 points and six rebounds while junior Brittany Johnson had 10 points and sophomore Mickel Picco added 11 points.

New Hampshire was led Ashley Cerniglia with 16 points and Jacinda Williams with 10.

The Eagles fell behind 10-6 to start the game but then went on the 14-2 run sparked by 11 points by Murphy. The Eagles finished the half shooting 51 percent and had 15 assists on 17 field goals. Murphy finished the half with 14 points, while Ayla Brown had six points and eight rebounds.

New Hampshire cut the lead to 11 points when Candace Williams hit a lay up at 16:04. Four consecutive free throws by Carolyn Swords and Brittanny Johnson pushed the lead back up to 14 points at 14:06. Lauren Whitehurst gave the Eagles their biggest lead, 73-42, with 3:22 to play. It was her first basket of the season.

The BC defense held UNH to 31 percent from the field for the game, while the Eagles shot 51 percent on the night.

Game Notes:
The Eagles opened the game with a new look as freshman Stefanie Murphy and junior Brittanny Johnson each started for the first time this season. They were joined by Carolyn Swords, Ayla Brown and Victoria Jones ... In the first half, BC had 17 of 33 in the first half (51% shooting) and had 15 assists ... BC finished with a season high in assists with 25 ... Brown, Jones and Corey Rusin earned career-highs in assists with eight, six and six respectively ... Boston College out-rebounded UNH, 51-27. The Eagles have won the board battle in all five games this season.
