Boston College willplay Virginia this afternoon at 5 p.m.

• The Eagles have played Virginia six times, with the Cavaliers leading the head-to-head series, 5-1.

• BC's only victory over Virginia was on Jan. 28, 2006. It was the Eagles first year in the ACC and Brooke Queenan had 15 points and nine rebounds to lead BC in a 57-43 victory.

500-500 CLUB

Ayla Brown, Carolyn Swords and Stefanie Murphy are all creeping closer to joining the 500-500 Club. The last BC player to reach 500 points and 500 rebounds was Kathrin Ress in 2006-07. Sixteen players have reached the 500-500 Club. Swords and Murphy will be the first from the same class since Nicole Conway and Becky Gottstein joined the 500-500 Club in 2002. Brown, a junior, is 30 rebounds away, while Swords, a sophomore, are just 28 rebounds away. Murphy, a sophomore, is 78 rebounds from 500.

NATIONAL STATS

Carolyn Swords is first in the nation in field goal percentage (68.0). She is also 59th in rebounding (9.0 rpg.).

Mickel Picco is 53rd in the country in scoring (16.9 ppg.), 24th in 3-pointers made in a game (2.6 per game) and 35th in free throw percentage (84.7).

 

 

• Boston College is eighth in the country in assists per game with a 17.0 average. The team is also 13th in the country in rebounding margin at +8.1, while the Eagles are 19th in the country in field goal percentage (44.9). Boston College is also 39th in scoring offense at 71.0 points per game and 54th in assist-to-turnover ratio (0.87).

TEAM NOTES

Carolyn Swords is shooting a career-high 68 percent from the field. She already holds the BC record for FG percentage with a 64.2 percent last season. Swords career average is 65.8 percent from the field.

• Junior Mickel Picco's three-point streak ended on Monday against Miami. The Austin, Texas native had hit a three-pointer in 32 consecutive games dating back to the 2007-08 season. Picco's run started on Feb. 18, 2008 when she hit two vs. Georgia Tech. The streak ended on Feb. 16, 2009. In the run she hit 83 three's (2.5 three's made a game).

• Junior Ayla Brown leads the current roster in career starts. She has started 69 of the 87 games she has played in three seasons.

Mickel Picco, Carolyn Swords and Stefanie Murphy are the only three Boston College players to have started every game this season.

BEYOND THE ARC

The Eagles scoring output from beyond the arc has increased this season. In 26 games, Boston College has hit 124 three-pointers. Last season only seven players hit from beyond the arc, this season 10 players have hit the long ball. The team record is 164 made in 33 games in the 1999-2000. 3-point team totals the last five years....
