Chestnut Hill, MA -
Boston College is currently 20-11 overall and finished 7-7 in the ACC, good enough for a fifth place tie in the conference with Georgia Tech and Florida State.
This is the first time Boston College has played in the post-season WNIT. The Eagles have played in the pre-season WNIT twice.
In 1999, Boston College ranked No. 20 in the nation finished 2-2 in the pre-season tournament. Cal Bouchard scored 20 points and Becky Gottstein added 18 as the Eagles defeated Maine, 83-56 in the first round game. Boston College defeated No. 22 Duke, 77-70, in the second round of the tournament. Jamie Cournoyer and Cal Bouchard combined for 41 points while Gottstein finished with eight points and 11 rebounds. In the third round game, eventual champion Georgia handed BC a 78-70 loss. BC then lost to Illinois in the consolation game, 73-42. Eagles forward Becky Gottstein earned All-Tournament team honors.
In 2005, Boston College defeated Drexel, 51-44, behind 15 points from Brooke Queenan and 10 points and nine rebounds from Kathrin Ress. In the second round game, Queenan earned her sixth career double-double (20 points, 11 rebounds) and Lisa Macchia added 14 points to lead BC past Richmond, 62-51. The Eagles then met former Big East rival, UConn in the semifinal round. BC fell, 60-46, as Ress and Kindyll Dorsey each scored 11 points. Brooke Queenan earned WNIT All-Tournament team honors for averaging 14.3 points and 8.6 rebounds in three games.
Boston College and Vermont (25-8) are meeting for the sixth time in the all-time series that dates back to 1982. The Eagles hold a 4-1 record against Vermont ... Eagles Head Coach Cathy Inglese coached at Vermont from 1986 to 1993 before arriving at BC. Inglese led the Catamounts to the NCAA Tournament two straight seasons.
BC had a four game win streak snapped last season when the Catamounts upset the Eagles in the Rhode Island Invitational. The Eagles lost, 56-48, in the final of the tournament in Kingston, RI. The Eagles shot 37 percent from the field in the game.
