Chestnut Hill, MA - The #15 Boston College Field Hockey team defeated ACC opponent #4 University of North Carolina Tar Heels on Friday afternoon at the Newton Campus Field Hockey Field 2-0.

After a scoreless first period where the Eagles only put one shot on goal, the floodgates opened and senior forward Bob Dirks tallied two goals in less than two minutes to put the Eagles on top. The first goal resulted when senior defender Kelley Smith broke up the Tar Heels offensive corner and took off towards center field. She passed to senior forward Bob Dirks dodged goalie Brianna O'Donnell when she came out to play the ball and put it home for the Eagles first tally of the match.

Dirks second goal came courtesy of senior forward Kathleen Murphy and junior midfield Caitlin McGovern who brought the ball up from centerfield and passed to Dirks inside the circle. Dirks used a spin dodge to beat the defender and backhanded the ball high to the right of the net to give BC a two goal lead.

UNC pulled their goalie in favor of an extra field player but were unable to use the man advantage to put any balls in the cage.

The win marks the first ACC win for the Eagles this season.

The Eagles play again on Sunday Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. against the Dartmouth Big Green in their 2nd annual Multiple Sclerosis fundraiser event to benefit the National MS Society.
