Seven Field Hockey Players Named to 2007 ZAG/NFHCA Academic Squad

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Seven Boston College field hockey players were named to the 2007 ZAG/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, according to the announcement made on Monday. Graduate students Brenna Leahy and Tara Fernandes, senior Alyssa Emrick, juniors Julia Berkowitz and Bob Dirks, sophomore Kristine Stigas and freshman Lexy Ratering Arntz earned the academic honor.

The Eagles were also recognized as one of the 48 teams to earn a team GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2007-08 academic year.

The National Academic Squad program recognizes collegiate student-athletes who achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year. The National Academic Team Award recognizes institutions that achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester.

ACC opponents Duke, Maryland and North Carolina were also honored as National Academic Teams. The top five performers were Old Dominion, American University, Indiana, Maine and Monmouth University.

Leahy, Fernandes, Berkowitz and Dirks were also named to the All-ACC academic team. Dirks and Berkowitz were honored with All-American, All-ACC and All-Northeast Region status for their play in 2007.
