Incoming Field Hockey Player Makes Canadian National Team

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Incoming freshman Kate Gillis was named to the Canadian National team that will compete for the final spot in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. The Canadian team will play in the Olympic qualifier against Korea, Ireland, Malaysia, Italy and Uruguay.

Gillis was one of the 18 Canadians to make the team. Canada is ranked 23rd in the world and will take on 19th-ranked Italy on Saturday, April 26. The rest of schedule includes 14th-ranked Ireland on Sunday, April 27, 25th-ranked Malaysia on Tuesday, April 29, Uruguay, ranked 24th on Thursday, May 1 and Korea on Saturday, May 3. The goal and bronze medal games are scheduled for Sunday, May 4.

Gillis is the second-youngest player to make the team at 18 years old.
