Two Women's Ice Hockey Players Win Hockey East Weekly Honors

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College women's ice hockey members Danielle Welch and Molly Schaus were named the Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week respectively by the Hockey East Association according to a press release issued this afternoon.

Welch, a freshman forward from Hastings, Minnesota earned her first league award with two goals in two games in non-conference play for the Eagles over the weekend. Welch scored late in the third period of the Eagles 3-1 win over Colgate and followed with the lone tally in BC's 1-0 overtime win against Yale.

Schaus (Natick, Mass), a junior goaltender and reigning Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for December, earned her fourth weekly honor, stopping 59 out of 60 shots in two games including 32 shots against Yale for her sixth shutout of the season. She finished the weekend with a .983 save percentage and a 0.49 GAA.

The Eagles continue their non-conference road schedule with a pair of games in Canton, N.Y. against St. Lawrence University on Friday and Saturday.
