Feb. 17, 2009

Chesnut Hill, MA - The Boston College women's lacrosse team will open their spring season this weekend with a two game road trip to upstate New York.

The Eagles will travel to Buffalo, N.Y. to take on Canisius College on February 21 at 12 p.m. and then travel to Niagra Falls to face off with Niagra in a noontime tilt on Sunday.

"We are excited to be opening the season this weekend. This has been one of the most productive and exciting preseasons we have had, and everyone is eager to see how things look against a true opponent," said Head Coach Bowen Holden. "Canisius and Niagara will be two good tests for us this weekend."

The Eagles and Holden are coming off one of the most successful seasons in the program's history in 2008 and look to continue their forward momentum in the 2009 season.

BC's triple threat attack featuring senior captains Jenna McCabe and Maura Mahoney and junior Lauren Costello will be looking to build on a solid foundation of success they have laid down over the last several seasons.

McCabe a first team All-Northeast Region All-American and All-ACC player in 2008 will be looking to close out her career in the maroon and gold with another record-breaking year.

Senior tri-captain Lauren Fitzpatrick anchors a strong and dedicated midfield that will be a key component to the Eagles' game plan this season.

In the backfield, the senior core of Emily Hannigan and Margot Spatola will anchor a strong defensive unit for the Eagles.

In the cage, senior goalkeeper Katie Monaghan will be looking to shutdown opponents with a blend of competitiveness and experience.

Following their weekend in New York against two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference teams, the Eagles head south to West Palm Beach Florida for a spring break showdown with Fairfield and Lehigh.

BC opens their season at home on March 11 with a 4:30 match against Brown University at their new home, the Newton Lacrosse-Soccer Complex.
