Strong headwinds take fours out of competition

The Boston College women's rowing team faced the top boats in the northeast as well as a whipping headwind on Sunday, October 29 at the Princeton Chase in Princeton, N.J.

The weather conditions up and down the Northeast corridor this past weekend affected BC football and BC rowing alike. The Eagles had planned to compete with four women's four boats in addition to the customary varsity eights.

With the strong wind, the only collegiate competition at this year's Princeton Chase was the varsity eight events.

The Eagles first varsity-eight placed 30th out of 54 entries in the women's open eight race with a time of 17:24.13. The Eagles beat first varsity boats from Rutgers and Trinity.

The second varsity-eight for the Eagles was less than 30 seconds off the pace of the first, finishing 40th out of 54 entries with a time of 17:49.89.

The race was won by conference rival Virginia with a time of 15:50.93.

The Eagles will finish their fall season on Saturday, November 18 at the Foot/Tail of the Charles on the Charles River in Cambridge, Mass. -- the traditional end to fall rowing for Charles River university crews. After November 18, Boston College will hit the waters again on March 2, 2007 in Lake Hartwell, S.C. for a scrimmage against Clemson University.
