The No. 13 Boston College women's soccer team improved to 5-1-0 on the season with an impressive 5-0 victory over Stony Brook at the Newton Soccer Field on Friday night. Sophomore Brooke Knowlton led the Eagles with two goals and one assist, while freshman Stephanie Wirth had one goal and one assist for the Eagles.
Boston College got on the board first as freshman Julia Bouchelle scored her third goal of the season just six minutes into the game. Bouchelle received the ball right inside the box from junior Kelly Henderson. Bouchelle ripped a low shot to the right of Stony Brook goalkeeper Marisa Viola (four saves) for a 1-0 BC lead.
The Eagles would strike two more times as Knowlton scored her first goal at 31:12. Again Henderson set up the play for her second assist of the game. Seven minutes later, Wirth scored her first of the night, second of her short career, when she was sent in the box on a nice pass from Knowlton.
Knowlton scored her second of the night on an unassisted effort at 57:52 in the game. BC freshman Alaina Beyar ended the scoring for BC when she scored off a pass from Wirth at 87:51.
Boston College out shot Stony Brook, 22-3. The Eagles also had seven corner kicks to Seawolves three.
Game NotesThe Eagles will host Central Connecticut State on Sunday, September 14 at 1 p.m.... Brooke Knowlton leads the Eagles in scoring with four goals and one assist for nine points. Last season, Knowlton led BC in scoring with five goals ... Sophomore Natalie Crutchfield earned her first start of the season ... Boston College has scored 17 goals in six games this season. The Eagles finished last season with just 23 total goals ... Freshman Stephanie Wirth notched a goal and one assist for three points. She now has two goals and one assist on the season for five points.
