BC-Florida State Box Score

Boston College women's soccer lost only its second game and first ACC match in a tough 1-0 battle against conference foe Florida State (9-2-1, 3-1-0 ACC) at Newton Soccer Field. Boston College is now 8-2-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the conference. The loss ended BC's eight game unbeaten streak.

Florida State had three straight corner kicks which BC's tough defense cleared away. The fourth corner kick did the Eagles in as senior Sarah Wagenfuhr sent a ball to the far post which was headed into the top right corner by freshman Tori Huster in the 39th minute of play.

After the first half, Boston College and Florida State had eight shots apiece, with each goalkeeper making four saves.

Boston College's best chances in the half came off the foot of sophomore forward Brooke Knowlton and sophomore defender Hannah Cerrone.

The Seminoles continued to pressure Boston College early in the second half but the tough Eagles defense proved why it is considered one of the top defenses in the country. In the 57th minute, Tiffany McCarty had a chance from the top of the box which BC goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni (nine saves) handled easily. McCarty also had a chance with minutes to play which she hit a shot off the crossbar.

Late in the half, Boston College gained some momentum on offense with a couple of chances. In the 76th minute, Gina DiMartino had a chance from just outside the box but her shot sailed high. In the 83rd minute, Julia Bouchelle had a chance inside the box off a cross from the left of FSU keeper Kate Milstead (five saves). Bouchelle rushed the shot that sailed just high of the goal.

Florida State had 19 shots, while Boston College had 13.
