Boston College junior Amy Caldwell scored the lone goal to lead the Eagles past ACC foe Duke, 1-0, at the Newton Soccer Field. The Eagles improved to 14-2-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the ACC, while Duke dropped to 7-7-4 and 3-4-2 in the conference.

Caldwell's goal came in the 24th minute of the game. The play began when Julia Bouchelle sent a ball which led freshman Victoria DiMartino into the box to the left of the Duke goalkeeper Tara Campbell. DiMartino and Campbell collided in an attempt to reach the ball. As the loose ball rolled out, Caldwell followed the play, took one dribble and struck a shot from about 19 yards out into the open goal.

The Eagles thought they had a goal early on a shot by Gina DiMartino 12 minutes into the match. DiMartino shot was from about 22 yards out and Campbell jumped up to stop the shot but bobbled the ball. It looked like the ball crossed the goal mouth on by the BC players but the linesman never signaled a goal and Campbell picked up the save.

Duke's best chance to tie the match came when Kendall Bradley had a good look at the goal from 15-yards out with 13 minutes to play in the half. Bradley ripped a shot but it was easily handled by BC goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni.

At the half, Boston College held the edge in shots taken, 9-1.

The second half Duke came out with more energy but the Eagles defense - Hannah Cerrone, Kelly Henderson, Alyssa Pember and Kristen Mewis - put a tight seal on any runs the Blue Devils attempted to make.

The Eagles offense continued to attack as DiMartino's one-timer to the near post in the 59th minute looked good until Campbell punched the ball wide. BC's junior Brooke Knowlton was busy all night on the attack. She had a great chance in the 66th minute but was robbed by the post on a one-timer off a great pass from Gina DiMartino.

Another great opportunity for BC came when Mewis ripped a right-footed shot from 25-yards out. The ball looked to be headed into the top corner but it veered just over the crossbar with 12 minutes to play in the match.

Boston College finished the match with 15 shots, while Duke managed four. The Eagles defense held Duke's leading scorer KayAnne Gummersall to just one shot, while Mewis and DiMartino had four shots apiece. The Eagles also held the edge in corner kicks, 7-1.

Mastroianni had one save as she picked up her 10th shutout of the season. Campbell had four saves in the loss.
