Freshman Julia Bouchelle scored her seventh goal of the season to lead Boston College past Clemson, 1-0, in an ACC match in front of 537 fans at the Newton Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles are now 6-3-1 in the conference, the most victories by the team since joining the ACC in 2005. BC is 12-4-2 overall. Clemson finished the season at 5-11-1 overall and 1-8-1 in the conference.
Bouchelle gave the Eagles the lead when she headed in a corner kick from senior Caitlin Hiler at 61:18 in the game. Bouchelle connected with Hiler's corner kick in the middle of the box. Bouchelle just headed the ball into the far corner for a 1-0 lead. Bouchelle had a great chance in the first half when she ripped a shot from just outside the box to the near post. The shot just went wide of the goal at 37:20 in the game.
Earlier in the second half, sophomore Amy Caldwell had a great opportunity when she headed a cross from Hiler to the near post. Clemson goalkeeper Paula Pritzen (eight saves) just stuck out her hand and deflected the ball wide to keep the Tigers tied at 54:29 in the game.
The Eagles offense was led by defender Hannah Cerrone with seven shots (three on goal), while Bouchelle, Brooke Knowlton and Kelly Henderson each had three shots in the game.
The Eagles controlled the play throughout the game as they outshot Clemson, 23-4, and held the Tigers to zero shots in the second half. The Eagles also had nine corner kicks to the Tigers three.
Boston College senior goalkeeper Sarah Buonomo earned her first start of the season and was credited with her 17th career shutout.

Senior midfielder Caitlin Hiler set her personal career high for points and assists in a single season with two goals, six assists for 10 points. Her previous high was seven in 2007 (three goals and one assist) ... Prior to the match, the five seniors - Brianna Wilson-Byrne, Caroline Walden, Sarah Buonomo, Kerri McNicholas and Caitlin Hiler - were honored for their commitment and dedication to the team over the last four years...The Eagles have scored 29 goals this season, which is six more than the 2007 team scored...Boston College will travel on Tuesday to North Carolina to prepare for the ACC Tournament which begins on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
