Boston College women's soccer team advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament with a 3-0 victory over Central Connecticut at the Newton Soccer Field last night.

Boston College improved to 14-5-2 and will play the winner of the second game of the night - Harvard/Northeastern. Central Connecticut is now 12-7-4.

The Eagles scored on a first half penalty kick and had two second half goals to capture the first round victory.

BC sophomore Amy Caldwell attempted to break through two Blue Devil defenders and was dropped in the box. A penalty kick was awarded by the referee. Boston College senior Caitlin Hiler placed the shot to the far right corner for an Eagles 1-0 lead. It was Hiler's third goal of the season.

Boston College out shot Central nine to one and registered six corner kicks in the half.

Sophomore Brooke Knowlton gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead when she knocked in a pass from Caldwell in the 47th minute of play. Knowlton was five yards out and alone in front when Caldwell slid the ball to her and the forward one-timed a shot by Central's goalkeeper Erin Herd. Knowlton now has nine goals and three assists for a team-leading 21 points.

In the 56th minute, freshman Stephanie Wirth would register her third goal when she out-hustled a Central defender for a ball which Knowlton slid towards the goal. Wirth one-timed her shot by a diving Herd as the Eagles took a 3-0 lead.

Boston College freshman goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni had three saves on the way to her ninth shutout this season. The Eagles out shot the Blue Devils, 17-5, and had a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks in the game.
