The US Under-20 Women's National Soccer head coach Jillian Ellis has named Boston College freshmen Gina DiMartino and Kelly Henderson to the Under-20 Women's National Soccer Team. DiMartino and Henderson are two of 18 players named to the squad which will play the full Mexico Women's Team in two games between Feb.18-23.
There are three others ACC players that were named to the roster including Virginia's Chanel Jones, UNC's Tobin Heath and Florida State's Becky Edwards.
The U-20 US team will face Mexico on Feb. 20 and 22 at 4 p.m. in Ixtapan de la Sal, located 80 miles from Mexico City. DiMartino and Henderson participated in team training camp from Feb. 4-11 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.
DiMartino, sister of Tina DiMartino (UCLA), a midfielder on the 2006 U.S. team that played in Russia, scored 13 goals with five assists for the Eagles. A native of Massapequa, NY, DiMartino was the ACC Rookie of the Year and was named to the All-ACC Rookie team. She was also a chosen a first-team selection for Soccer American All-Freshman team.
Henderson, a native of Baldwin, NY, was the Eagles fifth leading scorer with four goals and seven assists. A versatile player, Henderson played in the back at the start of the season and eventually became a starter in the midfield for the Eagles. She was named to the SoccerBuzz Magazine Northeast Regional All-Freshman team and SoccerBuzz Magazine All-America fourth-team. Henderson earned the WPSL Tournament MVP when she led the Long Island Fury to the WPSL National Championship last summer.
