CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College men's and women's swimming and diving teams split a non-conference meet against the Loyola-Maryland Greyhounds on Sunday, Oct. 21.
The women continued their success, upping their record to 3-1 on the season with a 212-88 victory. The loss for the men was their first of the season, dropping a 202-92 decision. The men are now 2-1 on the year.
Caroline Byron led the way for the Eagles, winning both the 500 free (5:18.29) and 200 free (1:56.95). Valerie Crisp earned Outstanding Performance honors with wins in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. Crisp won the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.13 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:32.65.
Devon Kelly earned first place honors, winning the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Kelly scored 226.88 in the 1-meter and 218.78 in the 3-meter.
The women's team also received victories from Elizabeth Snyder (1,000 free), Anna Smith (200 fly), Caryn Switaj (50 free), Kelly Leahy (100 free), Amy Bromann (200 backstroke) and Mari Wunschel (200 medley).
First place in the 400 medley relay and 400 free relay also were captured by the Eagles. The women registered a 4:04.60 in the medley relay and 3:44.97 in the free relay.
John Maloy kept his freshman success rolling, winning two events, which totaled 18 points for the Eagles. The freshman won the 500 free (4:46.91) and the 200 medley (2:00.04) along with taking BC's Outstanding Performer honors.
John's older brother, Joseph Maloy, earned a win in the 1,000 free event. The senior finished the event in a time of 10:13.15.
Freshman Brett Bromann finished in first place in the 200 backstroke, with a time of 1:57.21
BC's next dual meet is against Stony Brook on Friday, Oct. 26. The meet starts at 7 p.m. in Stony Brook, N.Y.
