CARY, N.C. - After a three hour rain delay, the No. 5 seed Florida State came up victorious over No. 12 seed Boston College. The Seminoles won 4-0 on Thursday, April 19 at the ACC Championships. The match began at 3:30 pm at the Cary Tennis Center and was moved to NC State at the Andy Andrews Indoor Tennis Center and continued at 6:40 pm.
The Seminoles began doubles at Cary Tennis Center with senior Nicola Slater and junior Carolin Walter against Lauren Cash and Dasha Cherkasov ahead 7-1. When the teams finally got to the indoor courts, Cherkasov had to fly back to Boston College to get sworn in as an American citizen. Florida State won by default.
Freshman Lauren Macfarlane with partner Tapiwa Marobela and freshman Jessica Wente with partner senior Miranda Foley were ahead in both of their matches when the rain hit Cary. At the indoor court, Wente and Foley finished first winning 8-2 over Brittany Delaney and Gia Nafarrete. Macfarlane and Marobela did not finish their match because the Seminoles clinched the doubles point.
All of the singles matches took place at Andy Andrews Indoor Tennis Center at NC State. Coming off the courts first was Walter against Delaney with a strong 6-1, 6-0 win. Sophomore Ania Rynarzewska faced Alina Sullivan coming out victorious 6-1, 6-2.
Clinching the win for the Seminoles, and posting her 19th singles match of the season, was Macfarlane. The freshman defeated Cash 6-2, 6-2 on court two.
The Eagles concluded their regular season with an overall record of 5-16, and 0-11 in ACC action.
