New York, N.Y.. - The Boston College women's indoor track team competed against 26 other collegiate squads at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York, N.Y. on Friday and Saturday, marking 14 top 25 finishes.
Highlighting the top performances were the first place finish by the 4x800 meter relay team and a third place finish by the distance medley squad. The 4x800 team clocked a time of 8:51.81, a full eight seconds faster than second-place Oklahoma. Their time broke the Armory track record and puts them first on BC's all-time performance list. The distance medley relay crossed in a NCAA provisional time of 11:20.54, marking the fastest time in the ACC this season and second in BC history.
Registering the other top 25 marks were senior Jennifer Heyde (10:11.49, 23rd) in the 3000-meter run and senior Alison Fogarty (1:17.70, 16th) in the 500. Three women placed in the top 25 of the 1000 including freshman Siobhan Breagy (2:55.28, 4th), sophomore Christine Sullivan (2:56.82, ninth) and freshman Monica Chase (3:03.02, 21st). Racing in the 800 were sophomore Samantha Gawrych (2:12.14, second) and senior Mary Heitkamp (2:13.96, seventh). Junior Medena Knespl (17:45.80, fifth) and freshman Christy Titus (17:47.61, ninth) ran the 5000.
In the championship races, sophomore Gretchen Andrus (4:54.92, seventh) and Heitkamp (4:59.74, 14th) headed the 1-mile while juniors Mallory Champa (9:35.71, seventh) and Nichole Lister (9:37.34, eighth), sophomore Brielle Chabot (9:42.34, 10th) an senior Nikki Tufts (9:48.92, 11th) all highlighted the 3000.

Indoor track competition continues on Saturday, Feb.16, when both teams compete in the Tufts Invitational. The meet will begin at 11 a.m in Medford, Mass.
