The Boston College volleyball team suffered a 3-0 defeat in its ACC home opener against the Virginia Cavaliers. Despite a career blocking night from both Tsvetelina Dureva and Melanie Cimino, who each matched a career high with four blocks, the Eagles could not overcome the Virginia attack.

The Eagles fell to 6-10, (0-4 ACC) while Virginia improved to 9-7 (1-3 ACC) on the season.

In the first set, after Virginia took a 23-17 lead, the Eagles called timeout to regroup. BC then rallied off four straight points before the Cavaliers closed out the set with two straight points.

Virginia used an 8-0 run in the second set to take a commanding 14-6 lead. The Eagles pulled to within 17-13 after a Mollie Kolosky service ace, but the Cavaliers won the next three points, eventually winning the set, 25-18.

The third and final set was well contested as the two teams battled through 16 ties and eight lead changes. With the score tied 21-21, Virginia notched the next three points on two consecutive kills and a BC error. The Eagles fought off consecutive match points on kills from Dureva and Brennan Clark, but the Cavaliers won the next point for a 25-23 win.

Leading the way for the BC attack was Taylor Williams who registered eight kills. Setter Brittany Pierpont notched 28 assists, and Clark had 14 digs to lead the Eagles.

BC will next face Virginia Tech on Sunday at 12:00 pm in Power Gym.
