NEW YORK, N.Y. - Senior Mallory Champa finished third overall to lead the Boston College women's cross country team to a third place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship on November 15 at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. Three BC runners finished in the top 25 to earn All-Region status.

Providence won the meet with a total of 36 points and the Friars' Danette Doetzel was the individual winner with a time of 20:56.5. Syracuse edged Boston College for second by five points as the Orange had 95 points while the Eagles had 90. Champa ran the course in 21:23.3 for the best finish in her career at the regional championship.

The top two teams from each regional event earn automatic bids to the NCAA Championship on November 24 in Terre Haute, Ind. The top four runners not on an advancing team automatically advance to the national meet.

On Sunday, a selection committee will name 13 at-large teams to comprise the 31 teams at the national championship. The committee will also select two additional at-large runners from each regional.

Senior Nichole Lister also turned in a top 10 performance as she finished ninth with a time of 21:47.4. Junior Jessica Driscoll placed 21st by crossing the line in 22:12.9. With their top 25 performances, Lister and Driscoll join Champa on the All-Region team.

Sophomore Caroline King's 22:29.5 was good enough for 30th while graduate student Mary Heitkamp earned a 32nd place finish with a time of 22:30.3.

Junior Brielle Chabot ran a 23:09.7 which put her in 71st while classmate Lauren Johnston crossed in 23:14.5 for 77th place.
