Women's Cross Country Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

Feb. 27, 2008

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College women's cross country squad has been named to the 2007 NCAA Division I U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team, announced yesterday by the coach's association.

The team, who received the award for the first time, participated in the NCAA Championships for the third straight year this past November. Thirty-one teams competed at the NCAA Championships and of those 31, 26 teams received the All-Academic Team award, 84 percent of the field.

For a team to be considered for the award, it must have competed and compiled a team score at their respective NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade point average.

A total of 158 Division I women's programs received the USTFCCCA All-Academic team honor. There are 325 teams in Division I that sponsor women's cross country. Of the teams on the list, 35 of them had team GPAs over 3.50.

The Atlantic Coast Conference tied the Big 12 Conference for the most programs on the list with 10 apiece. Along with BC, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, NC State, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest all were named.
