Chestnut Hill, Mass. -
Head Coach Randy Thomas was named Northeast Regional Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year on Monday, Nov. 21, by the US Track Coaches Association, the same day his team finished 18th at the NCAA Championship and senior Laurel Burdick earned All-American status.
Under Thomas' direction this season the Eagles captured the Northeast Regional Championship held at Boston's Franklin Park. In that race, three-time All-American Maria Cicero and Burdick finished ninth and tenth overall to propel the Eagles to their first place team finish.
Thomas has coached nine different athletes to All-American status in his 13 seasons at Boston College. Cicero has earned the prestigious award in 2004, 2002 and 2001, while Maggie Guiney (2000, 2001) and Angie Graham (1996, 1997) received it twice. This also marks the sixth year in a row that a Boston College women's cross country runner has earned All-American accolades.
In 2001, Thomas earned NCAA Track and Field Association National Cross Country Coach of the Year, while the previous year (2000) he earned Regional Coach of the Year honors.
The women's indoor track and field season begins on Dec. 3 against Harvard. The meet will begin at 12:00 p.m. in Cambridge, Mass.
